TRANSPORTATION OF CHURCH BELLS TO DAMASCUS

05/09/2022

Last week, the Moscow Cargo cargo terminal ensured that a special cargo was sent to Damascus on a flight of the Syrian carrier Cham Wings Airlines - two small bronze church bells specially manufactured for the Orthodox centers of the Syrian Arab Republic that suffered during the hostilities - the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ez-Zabadani and the monastery of St. George in Seidnaya.

The bells were cast this summer by the order of the Regional Public Fund Foundation for the Support and Preservation of Spiritual Monuments Spiritual Heritage of St. Paul the Apostle with donations from the Fund for Support of Christian Culture and Heritage. On one of the bells is depicted the face of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on the other - the face of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious.

In Orthodoxy, bells have a special meaning. Church bells are the link between a temple and heaven: their ringing precedes the prayer in the temple and becomes its continuation at the end of the church service. It is not for nothing that an icon is called a prayer in paint, a temple is called a prayer in stone, and a bell ringing is a prayer in bronze.

And we sincerely believe that the bells, made and delivered to Syria with the participation of so many caring people, will sound, announcing joy, prosperity and tranquility.
